Ecstatic Dance is a global movement that has been active around the world since the mid 90’s, originally inspired by Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms.
The Bali edition of Ecstatic Dance was first launched in 2009, at the Yoga Barn, facilitated by our Co-founder Charley Patton. Being the only venue offering Ecstatic Dance in Bali for several years, as of 2022 there are several other places on the island where one can experience Ecstatic Dance, at the beach or in the hills.

At the Yoga Barn, Ecstatic Dance is a weekly community gathering that takes place on Friday nights and Sunday mornings.
Ecstatic Dance is NOT a night club experience, on the contrary, it is more like a Monestary of movement meditation.
Each Ecstatic Dance at the Yoga Barn is facilitated by a professional DJ who will hold a safe and sacred container for you, as s/he guides you on a journey through the music to where all can connect to a common source of ecstatic energy on the dance floor.
There are two studios to dance in: the upper level, Studio Nyoman, which is has limited capacity, and the lower Studio, Ketut, which can handle another 75 people or so.
As a freeform journey into movement, the Ecstatic Dance floor at the Yoga Barn is a place where you can simply be yourself, go within, and experience bodily freedom through the mosaic of rhythm.
Each Ecstatic Dance at the Yoga Barn ends with a very special closing; either a delicate closing set or with sound healing or singing and chanting.
Each week is filled with joy and happiness, it’s a beautiful experience for all on the floor.

Ecstatic Dance at the Yoga Barn is not suitable for children because of the unpredictable nature of the crowd's movement, for this reason, no one under the age of 15 is permitted upstairs for dance. The fee for a teen to dance upstairs is the same as an adult.
Any teen, age 15 or under, is welcome to dance, Free of Charge, in the downstairs studio (Ketut).
Children under 10yrs old may dance downstairs, FOC, with parental supervision.
If the Yoga Barn staff feels that a child is at risk in anyway, the child and parents will not be permitted to enter.

Aggressive behavior will NOT BE TOLERATED, and you will be asked to leave if you violate any of the above Rules & Etiquette.

WHAT TO WEAR:
YOU WILL SWEAT, ALLOT.
Bring a towel, or rent one for IDR 40,000 at reception.
Its best to wear loose, comfortable clothing or the same outfit you wear to a yoga class. When choosing your outfit, please be conscious that you are on an ecstatic dance floor in Ubud, Bali and not in night club or Shibari Party.
CHILDREN:
Friday Nights are NOT suitable for children, its dark and very crowded and not safe.
Sunday mornings are all about community! Children over the age 10 are welcome to dance, any younger that it becomes unsafe due to overcrowding. However, the lower studio is wide open and safe for kids.
Kids are free and do not need to pay.
FOOD & DRINK:
STAY HIYDRATED.
There is bottled coconut water for sale at Reception for each dance, please purchase as needed.

CAPACITY:
There are TWO STUDIOS to dance in: UPSTAIRS / STUDIO NYOMAN & DOWNSTAIR / STUDIO KETUT. The upstairs studio has a maximum capacity. Once that capacity is reached, dancers will be relegated to the downstairs studio, where another 100 people can dance.
THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR YOU. TO GUARANTEE YOUR SPOT UPSTAIRS, RE-PURCHASING ON MEGATIX, IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
But, if you miss the pre-sales, just walk-in and pay at the Main Reception.
Each Friday & Sunday, in addition to Ecstatic Dance there is an amazing array of classes to choose from. Please check our online schedule for the current schedule to see if Ecstatic Dance has been removed/cancelled.
